Online - Tyler Ley - Phoenix
Friday, August 26, 2022 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (CDT)
Description
Dr. Tyler Ley of Oklahoma State University will be presenting on the Phoenix and how it could affect some ODOT jobs in the future.
Brief (non-technical) overview of the Phoenix: At the batch plant, a sample of concrete is placed inside the Phoenix (think easy bake oven on steroids) and baked for 15 minutes. After the wait time, the machine will calculate W/C ratio, allowing the user to correlate that number to strength. The goal is that the Phoenix data will trump any cylinder data, thus prevent having to core good concrete due to low breaks caused by cylinders being initially cured incorrectly. ODOT already has 3 Pheonix machines. Dr. Ley is working on collecting data with both the Pheonix and cylinders on a few upcoming projects to show validity.
